  • A(nother) New Start

    June 1, 2026

It’s been a while. This is my first blog post since 2024. Which seems to happen a lot around here. Your reward is a picture of most of the Sydney based Todd family at the Waratahs v Brumbies match at the Sydney Football Stadium a couple of weeks ago. But I’m back and I’ve migrated to yet another content management system. This one is called Hugo and I’m quite liking it. The journey from my old site has taken longer than I would have liked though. This is mainly due to my own stupidity. I had used a 3rd party hosting platform for my photos and when I stopped using it I didn’t update any of the links on the old site.

  • The View from Lunch

    March 15, 2024

I had lunch with a couple of old friends today and this was the view from our table. Life is good sometimes.

  • Tax Based Fact of the Day

    March 6, 2024

Here’s your fact for the day, courtesy of Richard Dennis - “The (Australian) Federal Government collects more from HECS-HELP repayments than it does from the petroleum resource rent tax”. The full article is available from the Australia Institute

    November 17, 2023

Today’s loaf looks fantastic, very much hoping that it tastes as good as it looks.

  • Hello World

    October 27, 2023

This is my first blog post on my new Hugo site. Welcome!

  • The Perils of Elevation

    October 25, 2023

Positive aspects of an office on the 52nd floor - the views across a lovely harbour and city and even out to sea on a clear day. The negative aspect can be summed up as “fire drill". No need for leg day at the gym this week.

  • Two Birthday Boys

    July 18, 2023

They may no longer be small, or boys for that matter. But here are the two offspring in a classic pose to celebrate their birthdays. One happened last week and the other is a couple of days away. Happy Birthday not so small offspring.

  • Sweet, Sweet Coffee

    June 8, 2023

The combination of decent beans, decent machine, and a half competent barista was music to my taste buds.

  • I Need to Work on Presentation

    April 21, 2023

I’m experimenting in the kitchen. This tasted very good but I definitely need to work on my plating skills. Next time I’ll add some potatoes as well.

  • Stone Cold Sober

    March 1, 2023

For only the second time I was lucky enough to see Del Amitri live last night. They were spectacular. Although at my current rate I will see them again in my 80s.

  • Before the Rain

    January 5, 2023

Before the rain came a cricket match broke out. The Sydney Sixers played the Brisbane Heat in the first BBL match at North Sydney Oval on the 4th of January, 2023. Sadly rain shortened the game to 13 overs a side and then caused it to be cancelled after the first innings. Although as JFGP said they were a pretty good 13 overs.

  • An Uneasy Peace

    December 30, 2022

Only the cat knows why he likes to sit on a chair with Yoda. Just as long as he doesn’t cross the Jedi master and find himself floating a metre above the floor.

  • Sydney to Hobart 2022

  • Lockdown Baking

    December 4, 2022

I’m a bit late to the lockdown baking trend but this is a picture of the first loaf made with my sourdough starter. I may do this again.

  • Comedy Night Out

    December 1, 2022

A great night out at the Sydney Opera House watching the last night of Nish Kumar’s tour. We are all oat milk wankers after all.

  • Coffee with a View

    November 16, 2022

I had a coffee this morning sitting outside a cafe with this view.

  • Giving Blood

    July 28, 2022

I haven’t been able to donate blood since I moved to Australia in 1996. The restrictions were lifted in the last month so today was my first donation to the Australian Red Cross. It’s something we should all be doing every 3 months.
