My Blog Posts

  • A New Blog to Follow

    August 1, 2004

A new blog to read; Daily Mail watch. They read the daily (and sunday) fascist so that you don’t have to. [Courtesy of LinkMachineGo] Of course, it’s all Tony Blair’s fault. Seriously, there was an article this week where they stretched logic to new levels of incredulity by attempting to prove that Sven Goran Eriksson’s love of the ladies was all the fault of the man in Number 10. Just priceless.

  • ID Card Report

    July 31, 2004

The parliamentary home affairs committee has looked at the lovely Mr Blunkett’s plans for ID cards. Their conclusion? Despite more holes than a colander and the omission of a number of substantive facts (like, for instance, how much the whole lot is going to cost) they conclude that the scheme is correct in principle. Dear sweet lord we’re doomed. There is a more lucid discussion of the matter on the Spy Blog. It’s well worth a read.

  • Things My Wife Has Said

    July 31, 2004

Number 1 in an occasional series; “The only Friday I can take off is the Thursday.”

  • Bionic Dolphins

    July 30, 2004

For my next birthday I would like a bionic dolphin please. That is all.

  • Service, Shmervice

    July 30, 2004

Here is the text of a letter I’ve just sent to the nice people at Amazon UK complaining about their “fulfilment partner”; *Terrible delivery service from DHL. My orders to date have come through Royal Mail and I have not had a problem. If I haven’t been there to receive a parcel in person it is held at a local post depot and it’s a simple matter to pick it up.

  • Lazy Summer Afternoons

    July 24, 2004

I am enjoying the coverage of the test match on Channel 4 at the moment. I have only one comment to make on their presentation - Geoffrey Boycott is a twunt. Will no one rid us of this turbulent Yorkshireman?

  • Pure Kwality

    July 24, 2004

Each week I receive, by email, a copy of The Friday Thing an incredibly well written, insightful and amusing “comment sheet”. If I was you I’d subscribe. I’m just catching up on my backlog and would like to share with you a quote from the edition published on the 16th of July. Talking about the controversial documentary du jour - Fahrenheit 9/11 - they said; *“Much as a new BBC documentary demolishes the lie that the BNP aren’t racist by showing its members to be so racist they probably want to gas the Welsh, Fahrenheit 9/11 unashamedly shows what a huge fucking mess the war in Iraq was, and is.

  • It Was Inevitable

    July 23, 2004

I swear that I’m turning into my mother. It was a hot, dry day today in London and all I could think of was “ooh, good drying day I must get some washing on.”

  • Bad Hair Day?

    July 22, 2004

You decide. Aunty Vikki stated quite firmly that I wouldn’t dare post any of the photos I took this afternoon because she was (and I quote) “having a bad hair day”. Doesn’t look like it to me. Although JFGP obviously isn’t too sure. Vikki and her better half are off on holiday for three weeks on Saturday. But if you were thinking of breaking into their house and stealing all of their belongings think again. Because Mark’s gran will be in residence and you don’t want to mess with her.

  • Birthday Boy

    July 20, 2004

SWMBO is working away from home at the moment. She is missing her little ankle biter and asked me to post another photo of JFGP. Ever obliging, here is one I took on his birthday last week. We were in Dartmouth for the day and I couldn’t resist the windmill, especially not after I’d shown it to him and he had dribbled all over the thing. Being a gentleman of leisure I obviously couldn’t afford it but Bobo came to the rescue and stumped up the requisite pound.

  • Very Much Like Making Love to a Beautiful Woman

    July 20, 2004

Folks, we’re saved. Swiss Toni is back for a second series. I inadvertently missed episode one but I shall be watching the rest of the series religiously. For those who missed the first series and haven’t been aware of the second either - it’s on BBC Three, so I’m not surprised you haven’t seen it. Hopefully it will make it to a real television channel some day soon.

  • Reading for New Dads

    July 19, 2004

Courtesy of Richard Jones I shall now be reading daddytypes.com. Its a blog for new dads and I expect the other top fathers who read these scribbles to follow me there in their droves. Of course we all know that the top fathering tip is that it will always take more wipes than you have taken out of the packet.

  • One.Tel Don't Want My Money

    July 18, 2004

After a phone bill the size of the national debt I decided it was time to, belatedly, take action. Here in the UK BT charge a premium on most services and mugs like me pay them. Well, no longer. I’d heard good things about One.Tel so decided to try their international call package. I tried to sign up on the web but it told me that I may already have an account and to call customer services.

  • The Holiday is Over

    July 17, 2004

We have made it safely back home from our week long holiday. With photos. Lots and lots and lots of photos. Expect to see some soon.

  • Coincidence? I Think Not

    July 9, 2004

My only point of note in the pub last night was the observation that the recent bad weather we have been suffering in England is God’s revenge. The storms were sent to blow all of those stupid bloody plastic flags off the cars in this country. And it’s a job well done I think.

  • Left Handers Day

    July 9, 2004

Remember kids, it’s just over a month until this year’s Official Left Handers Day. As JFGP is looking more like a leftie every day this should be a big day in the Todd household. All we need is a suitable celebration.

  • The Lights Go Dim

    July 9, 2004

The normally pedestrian level of activity on this weblog will be reduced even further over the next week or so. We are off on holiday. The Todd family, along with the Lewis’ and the Perrys of Reading are off to Devon for a week of rest (?) and recuperation. I suspect I’ll need a holiday by the time it’s over. Please amuse yourselves whilst I’m gone, and failing that I have included another picture of the boy. Instead of spot the ball, with that photo you have to play “Spot the Cheese”.

  • Nothing Doing

    July 3, 2004

JFGP and I have just returned from a couple of days visiting his grandparents. Later today we are off to Perry mansions where he will be deposited for the whole of tomorrow whilst SWMBO and I spend the day at Henley. Pimms ahoy!

  • More Babies

    June 28, 2004

News reaches us from down under of a new addition to the Whiston family of Harbord. Congratulations Gary, Fiona and Georgia. Born on the 18th of June and tipping the scales at 4.05 kilos, say hello to “Supermarket” Whiston.

  • Barcelona Photos

    June 22, 2004

On instructions from SWMBO I present yet another photo of JFGP pictured here in our hotel room in Barcelona. Cue isn’t he cute/lovely etc comments. More importantly, what it doesn’t mention on that Trip Advisor link that I posted above is that this hotel has a unique feature. The in room mini bar is free. Not only that but it includes beer. I know it’s not really free and that we paid for it but what a winner. Most hotels charge like a wounded bull just to open the door of the in-room mini fridge but at this hotel you can help yourself to the contents and they refill it every day. Bostin.
