  • Extortion

    February 5, 2002

Today we are learning about ’extortion’. Or, more precisely, airline ticket prices. Keen observers of this diary may have noticed that the boss and I are planning a trip to the UK this year. It is necessary, as I believe weddings by telephone are not strictly legal, and without being there I will not be able to see the lovely outfits everyone will have purchased to fit in with the theme of ’expensive and glamorous'.

  • Sad Techie

    February 5, 2002

It is true that people accuse me of being a sad techie. I like computers, I like mucking about with the internet and this wibbly wobbly web thing. But, and this is a big but, I have not developed a whole new computer programming language in Klingon like these people.

  • Web site of the day

    February 5, 2002

Web site of the day, week - oh stuff it, web site of the year. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce to the sport of cheese racing. Courtesy of the lovely people at MeFi.

  • Invitation Wording

    January 31, 2002

You have to love Google. Thanks to its mastery of the web I can bring you the details of the invitation wording decision here and now. Here are the possibilities, let me know which one you like by email or forever hold your peace (some chance); Option 1 - Bride and groom informal; Fiona Perry and Andrew Todd invite you to attend their marriage on Friday, the 16th of August, 2002 at three o’clock at Powderham Castle, Exeter, Devon.

  • Playing

    January 31, 2002

Three days since my last post. What a slacker. Its probably because I’ve been playing with my other web log and setting my machine up to run Debian. I’m a busy techie boy playing with his techie toys. Heaven. In wedding news, the guest list has been finalised and the Woodbury Park brochures are on their way to my Mum and Dad’s house. All it needs is me to come up with the wording for the invitation and Johnny Palmer to get them printed and we will be knee deep in rsvps. I can’t wait.

  • The Wedding Venue

    January 31, 2002

I just did a quick check of this web site and realised I haven’t linked to the wedding venue. That is rectified now. Maybe I should create a wedding page on this site. Possibly a job for the weekend.

  • Association

    January 28, 2002

It seems that I have a very associative mind. Its probably a human thing, but you can never be too sure. In my case, I associate certain songs with certain activities - settle - mostly playing computer games. Today I was trying out gnome-stones on my laptop and the tune ’twist in my sobriety’ by Tanita Tikaram started playing in my head. Weird. I think its because I was listening to her first album a lot when I acquired BoulderDash for my Commodore 64. That definitely makes me an eighties throwback.

  • Odd Post

    January 25, 2002

Time for the odd post? I must have been dreaming. The reason I’m working the night shift is to help our European users through their go-live. A doddle, I thought. How wrong can one person be? Well I was that wrong. Still, its Friday now and there is no way they are going to be calling up and keeping me here until after the pubs have closed - mainly because the pubs don’t close over the weekend in Sydney ;-)

  • Right back at your dear.

    January 22, 2002

    Right back at your dear.

  • Working the night shift

    January 22, 2002

Working the night shift this week, so I may have time for the odd idle post. We spent the weekend in the Hunter Valley (again) and now have more wine than you can shake a stick at. Suffice it to say a buying ban has been imposed and I shall be doing my level best to reduce stocks to a manageable level. Marvellous.

  • Digital Camera, Anyone?

    January 15, 2002

I’m in the market for a digital camera and am inviting your comments and opinions. I don’t want the worlds most complex gadget, just something that will allow me to take snaps and then post them up here fairly easily. That way the turnaround time will be a lot quicker and the photo album will be a lot more up to date. I’m going to start my search at photo.net but any other pointers or suggestions will be welcome. All e-mails to the usual address please.

  • Mr Kelly

    January 15, 2002

Mr Kelly supplied the team with a link to a very fine web page today. I thought I would share it with you, so here it is.

  • The highlight of the weekend

    January 14, 2002

The highlight of the weekend was our soiree on Saturday night. Bobo decided that we should host a dinner for Mrs P and young Ciaran as they had both celebrated birthdays last week. We were going to take the boat out during the day and then have a barbecue at our house in the evening. Step 1 was scuppered by the boat being out on a charter and so unavailable. But that isn’t too much of a tragedy as it wasn’t very sunny and the wind was gusting at over twenty knots on Saturday afternoon. Sitting in front of the TV playing Gran Turismo 3 was voted a much better alternative. That was before the ‘Weakest Link’ board game came out of course. Despite getting all of the questions right (apart from the ones I got wrong) I kept getting voted out first. They were ganging up on me.

  • Its Sunday

    January 13, 2002

Its Sunday, we are in the middle of an Eastenders marathon courtesy of Mrs Palmer. Thanks Mrs P. This means that I can now sit at the dining table and play with my Debian box whilst Bobo is in (miserable) heaven.

  • Apologies

    January 11, 2002

Apologies for not writing about me, but I have nothing to say. In this interlude please read 23 Myths of the Internet (courtesy of Radio Radio). Alternatively, you can get live cricket commentary on the Australia v New Zealand one day international at Cricinfo. Our normal narcissistic service will resume shortly. We thank you for your patience …

  • Witty Things

    January 10, 2002

I had lots of witty and erudite things to say today. Unfortunately Blogger has been having server load problems so I haven’t been able to post. At least thats my excuse, and I’m sticking to it.

  • Quote Source

    January 8, 2002

Twenty ‘andy points’ to anyone who can tell me the source of the quote in my last post yesterday. Of course, if you didn’t know there was a direct quote in it you probably won’t be able to figure out the source of it.

  • Bloody machine

    January 7, 2002

Bloody machine. Of course this page is now rendering correctly. As they say in France “that’s life”.

  • I've broken it

    January 7, 2002

I’ve broken it. I do not honestly know what I did but the previous post has broken this web page. Instead of my lovely blog page with all of the text in Verdana we are now rendering in your default font. Hmm, could be a size issue (with this page, rather than me), or it could be a problem with my hosting service (the lovely people at free.prohosting.com) and their web server. Of course when I download the html and view it locally all is fine. This is the kind of frustration that delights technical people and infuriates normal human beings. Whichever type you are there is guaranteed to be a high use of the phrase “bloody machine”.

  • Re-model web site

    January 7, 2002

Re-model web site … tick. Now on to the other 694 things on my to do list.
